PSWC Group History
1957 - 1978
KAL PORTER founded Porter, Jensen, Hansen, Manzagol Architects in San Jose and San Clemente, California. That firm is now knows as PJHM Architects. Mr. Porter sold his corporate interest in the firm in 1978 (Proposition 13 impacted schoolwork at the time).
1978 – 1989
KAL PORTER, AIA AND ASSOCIATES, INC. Initially designing the Moorpark High School for the Moorpark Unified School District. Moorpark Unified School District remains a client today.
1989 – Present;
KAL PORTER, AIA AND ASSOCIATES, INC. started doing business as (dba) PSWC GROUP, ARCHITECTS as a result of expanded business opportunities. As Kal Porter gradually retired, PSWC GROUP, ARCHITECTS’ ownership has been assumed by JAMES M. STINSON, Principal Architect and STEVE A. VARNER, Principal.
Sadly, MR. KAL PORTER passed away on February 25, 2008 leaving a legacy of innovative school design and a superior dedication to service over a professional span of 58 years plus, his influence has been left on several architectural firms and upon hundreds of schools throughout California and the world.
